AHC-VCL JV awarded ₹187 crore civil contract of Poonamallee Depot of Chennai Metro

Chennai, India (Urban Transport News): The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) awarded a contract order worth Rs 187.48 crores to the consortium of Altis Holding Corporation (AHC) and Varindera Constructions Limited (VCL) for the construction of Poonamallee Depot for Corridor 4 of Chennai Metro Rail Project, Phase 2.

The scope of work includes construction of metro depot at Poonamallee including Structural Works, Architectural Finishes, Plumbing Works, Signages, Utility shifting & Boundary wall and all Associated works for corridor 4 of Chennai Metro Rail project.

Tender for the contract package DPT-01 was floated in January this year and technical bids were opened in July. Financial bides were opened in Spetember and AHC-VCL JV was declared as lowest bidder (L1) for this contract package.  A total of five bidders were submitted their bids whose finacial positions are as under:

• AHC-VCL JV: Rs 187.48 crores (L1)
• HCC – KEC JV: Rs 195.79 crores (L2)
• Power Mech Projects: Rs 197.10 (L3)
• URC Constructions (URC): Rs 200.91 (L4)
• BGR Energy Systems: Rs 206.19 (L5)

Now the AHC-VCL JV has to complete the construction of Poonamallee depot in three years from the date of issuance of LoA. The depot will be built in 17 hectares area of land and will have a facility for 24 tracks that can fit six coach trains. Apart from this, staff accomodation will also be constructed in this depot.

According to CMRL officials, the first stretch between Poonamallee and Power House is an elevated stretch and will be constructed initially within four years. There are only two depots, with the biggest one at Madhavaram and the other at Poonamallee.
