Ahluwalia Contracts emerges lowest bidder to construct Mumbai Metro's Mandale depot

Mumbai, India (Urban Transport News): The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on 6th October 2020 opened financial bids of Contract Package L2B-C103 which was floated to complete the balance civil works of Mandale depot of Mumbai Metro Line-2 (Dahisar - Mandale).

As per the result announced by the MMRDA, Ahluwalia Contracts (India) Limited emerged as the lowest bidder among the other five contractors. The financial position of each bidder is as under:-

  • Ahluwalia Contracts (India) Limited - Rs 543.28 crore (L1)
  • NCC Limited - Rs 554.91 crore (L2)
  • Afcons Infrastructure Limited - Rs 587.12 crore (L3)

However, the other bidders viz. Relcon Infraprojects Limited, Capacite Infraprojects Limited and Man Infraconstruction Limited did not found qualified in the technical round, hence their bids were not opened by the tender committee.

The scope of work includes the construction of (Balance Civil works of CA-14) Mandale Depot [including Architectural Finishing works and excluding Pre-Engineered Structure works] of Line 2B Corridor [D.N. Nagar to Mandale] of Mumbai Metro Rail Project of MMRDA.

The tender was invited in February 2020 by the MMRDA with the estimated value of work Rs 464.75 crore after terminating the contract in January 2020 which was originally awarded to RCC Infra – MBZ JV in 2017 under package CA-14 citing poor progress of work.

The bids now sent for technical and financial evaluation. If everything found OK by the evaluation committee then MMRDA will issue a letter of acceptance (LoA) in favour of the lowest bidder to start the work.

The Mandale Depot, which is the second and largest maintenance depot of Line-2, will have a double-decker structure to stable a maximum of 72 trains of 8-coaches and will come along with staff quarters, 9 inspection bays (IBLs) and 15 workshop lines.

Line 2 of the Mumbai Metro Rail project will connect Dahisar in the northwest with Mandale in Mankhurd in the east. Construction on the first section of the line, called Metro 2A (between Dahisar and D.N. Road), started in November 2016 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.
