BEML bags Rolling Stock contract worth Rs 400 cr of Bangalore Metro

Bengaluru (Urban Transport News): The Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) has won a Rs.400 crores Rolling Stock contract of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC). The information has been shared on Wednesday by the BEML. The company said that it has bagged an order worth Rs.400 crores to augment the metro services in Bengaluru.

"BEML has received a contract for seven metro train sets of six cars configuration to augment the metro services in Bengaluru valued around Rs 400 crore," the BEML said in a regulatory filing. “Trains are packed when they arrive. BMRC was working to increase the capacity and is building it.

BEML bagged the contract worth Rs 400 crore to supply six-coach trains. The company is manufacturing coaches and spare parts and mining equipment at its Bengaluru complex,” a Namma Metro official said.

According to the capacity of Namma Metro, a three-coach Metro train can carry around 900 to 1000 passengers. In each coach, there is seating for 40 passengers in each coach, which means in each train only 120 passengers can sit, while over 850 have to travel standing.

Namma Metro officials said that the new six-coach trains will start running in the next few days. Bengaluru based the state owned company BEML is expanding its Rolling Stock business very fast in the Country.

In November 2018, MMRDA awarded the contract worth Rs.3015 crores to BEML Limited for the supply of 378 coaches (63 metro trains) for Metro-7 (Dahisar East-Andheri East) and Metro-2A (Dahisar West-DN Nagar).
