Employee found dead at basement of Delhi Metro headquarters

New Delhi (Urban Transport News): The body of a 33-year-old DMRC employee was found in the basement of the Metro Bhawan on Monday. The deceased identified as Mahesh Prajapati hailed from Varanasi and was residing in Govindpuri area of Delhi. Mahesh was working as a Maintainer since 2017 and was found dead in the basement near the stairs which connect all floors of the DMRC Headquarters at Metro Bhawan on Monday morning.

According to the DMRC officials, the matter was immediately reported to the police and body was taken by them for postmortem and the crime team of the police has visited the spot and matter is being further investigated. It appears that the incident may have taken place on the evening of Friday one day after the Holi when the office was closing for the weekend. The office reopened on Monday morning and the body was noticed by the security staffs.

“DMRC is taking up the matter with the security agency responsible for the security of the Metro Bhawan as to how they could not detect the body earlier and ensure that all areas are properly sanitized in future,” said the DMRC spokesperson. According to a CCTV footage, Mahesh was last seen on March 22 moving towards the stairs on the seventh floor of DMRC Headquarters (Metro Bhawan).

According to information shared by the Police, Mahesh got married to Priya Verma on December 15 last year and both were having some matrimonial dispute ever since they tied the knot. His wife left him exactly a month after they tied the knot. The Secretary Staff Council Anil Mahato has written a letter to the Managing Director of DMRC and demanded independent inquiry as the facts given beyond this case is not reliable. "Mahesh body/dead was found on 25/03/19 in mysterious circumstances in the basement of stairs of Metro Bhawan, headquarters of DMRC. Mahesh was called by the HR department after he returned from medical leave on 22/03/2019.

He was denied for joining the duty on 22/03/2019, he was last seen alive there. There are many issues related to it, why this happened in Metro Bhawan, why he was called, why his body was not seen for three days, how his dead body went inside the stairs space so that nobody can see his body. Abetment to suicide angle is there. Independent inquiry must be done on it, all footage of CCTV camera must be preserved", revealed from his letter. "Mukul also met with an accident while going to home in DMRC unfit cab, he died on 21/02/2019. No action was taken against the contractor and officer dealing cab", he added.
