Larsen & Toubro wins ₹4,878 crore civil contracts for Chennai Metro Phase 2

Chennai, India (Urban Transport News): The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has opened financial bids for its underground construction works comprising five packages (UG-01, UG-02, UG-03, UG-04 & UG-05) on October 1, 2021.

As per the bid results, Indian major infra firm Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) emerged as the lowest bidder in three packages (UG-03, UG-04 & UG-05) out of five. The total value of these three contracts are Rs 4,878 crores. These contract packages are part of construction of 45.81 km Corridor-3 of Chennai Metro Rail Project, Phase 2. This corridor will connect Madhavaram Milk Colony to SIPCOT through 49 metro stations.

Package UG-03 (KMC to Royapettah)

The scope of work under contract package UG-03 includes design and construction of five (05) underground metro stations at KMC, Sterling Road Junction, Nangambakkam, Gemini, Thousand Lights and Thousand Lights Crossover and works other than diaphragm wall of two underground stations at Royapettah Govt. Hospital & Chetpet Metro for Corridor-3 of Phase 2 of Channai Metro Rail Project.

• Tata Projects Ltd (TPL): Rs 1,975.28 Crores (L2)

Package UG-04 (Radhakrishnan to Adyar Junction)

The scope of work under contract package UG-04 includes design and construction of five (05) underground stations at Radhakrishanan Salai Jn, Thirumayilai Metro, Mandaiveli, Greenways Road (with part diaphragm wall), Adyar Jn and two cross passage shafts and one emergency escape shaft for Corridor-3 of Phase 2 of Channai Metro Rail Project.

• Tata Projects Ltd (TPL): Rs 2,040.75 Crores (L2)

Package UG-05 (Adyar Depot – Taramani Link Road Ramp)

The scope of work under contract package UG-05 includes design and construction of three (03) underground stations at Adyar Depot, Indira Nagar and Taramani Road Jn and Ramp and works other than diaphragm wall of underground station station Thiruvanmiyur Metro for Corridor-3 of Phase 2 of Channai Metro Rail Project.

Bidders and their Financial Position

• Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T): Rs 1,062.00 Crores (L1)
• Tata Projects Ltd (TPL): Rs 1,085.30 Crores (L2)
• Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon: Rs 1,096.04 crores (L3)

However, Tata Projects Ltd (TPL) and Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon Pvt Ltd have been emerged as lowest bidders for contract package UG-01 and UG-02 respectively.

Tenders for the above five underground contract packages were floated in November 2020 and technical bids were opened in July 2021. Now all bds have been sent for evaluation by tender commitee.
