Maha CM Fadnavis approves Nagpur Metro Rail Project Phase-II

Mumbai (Urban Transport News): The Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis has approved the phase-II of Nagpur Metro Rail Project on the very first day of the year 2019. The estimated project cost of phase-II is Rs.11,216 crores and the total length of this project will be 48.3 km while the total length of Phase-I is 41.7 km.

 

Chief Minister gave approval to the Nagpur Metro's ambitious project i.e. phase-II, in a meeting held in Mumbai on Tuesday. Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Ramtek MP Krupal Tumane, Umred MLA Sudhir Parve, were also present in the meeting.

The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha-Metro) officials made the detailed presentation on Phase-II of Nagpur Metro Rail project in the meeting. The progress of Phase-I is already in full swing and going on at an advanced stage. The phase-I of Nagpur Metro Rail project has a total of 40 stations in two stretches i.e. MIHAN to Automotive Square, and Lokmanya Nagar to Prajapati Nagar. At the end of the year 2018, the construction work was nearing to completion and in some parts rail tracks also have been laid. The Maha-Metro is already conducting a small joy ride on a regular basis from Airport Station to Khapri Station.

 

The Phase-II project of Nagpur Metro Rail will cover a length of 48.3 km which divided into five segments viz. Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna, Wasudeo Nagar to Wadi, Automotive Square to Kanhan river, Prajapati Nagar to Transport Nagar, and MIHAN to Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) elevated service reservoir (ESR). In the Phase-II, interchange station will be at Wasudeo Nagar. The phase-II will consists total 35 stations. 

 

The estimated expenditure on Phase-II project will come out Rs 11,216 crores. It is estimated to create an additional commuting potential for 2.9 lakh commuters per day by the year 2024. It is expected that the a total 5.5 lakh people will commute in Nagpur Metro after completion of the both phases.

 

Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) U P S Madan, Principal Secretary (Urban Development) Dr. Nitin Karir, Managing Director of Maha Metro-Nagpur Brijesh Dixit, Municipal Commissioner Nagpur Abhijit Bangar, Managing Director of MIDC P Anbalagan, Chairperson of Nagpur Improvement Trust Sheetal Ugale, also attended the meeting.
