MMRDA allocates ₹10,654 crore for Metro Rail and other transportation projects

Mumbai, India (Urban Transport News): The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) recently published its budget allocation report for the financial year 2020-21 where the majority of funds allocated various metro rail projects.

₹1,016 crore allocated for transport and traffic arrangements in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Out of ₹200 crore allocated for the elevated pedestrian walkway for Mumbai Metro 7 (Dahisar East - Andheri E), ₹370 crore allocated for the Multi-Modal Integration at various metro stations, Rs 100 crore allocated for the implementation of high-speed transportation for Kanjurmarg-Badlapur, Rs 100 crore allocated for building access control system on Western Expressway and ₹50 crore allocated for a cable-stayed bridge for pedestrians between City Park and MNP.

₹6,738 crore allocated for various metro rail projects being implemented by the MMRDA in Mumbai. The project-wise allocations are as under:

  • Mumbai Metro 2A: Rs 920 crore
  • Mumbai Metro 2B: Rs 600 crore
  • Mumbai Metro 3: Rs 600 crore
  • Mumbai Metro 4: Rs 1,287 crore
  • Mumbai Metro 4A: Rs 100 crore
  • Mumbai Metro 5: Rs 384 crore
  • Mumbai Metro 6: Rs 803 crore
  • Mumbai Metro 7: Rs 1,023 crore
  • Mumbai Metro 9: Rs 500 crore
  • Mumbai Metro 10: Rs 58 crore
  • Mumbai Metro 11: Rs 56 crore
  • Mumbai Metro 12: Rs 43 crore
  • Mumbai Metro 13: Rs 25 crore
  • Metro Bhawan: Rs 100 crore
  • Metro Employee Accommodation: Rs 25 crore
  • Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL): Rs 212 crore

Rs 2,900 crore allocated for the Mumbai-Trans Harbor Link project by the MMRDA. First MMRDA has allocated Rs 25 crore for Metro 13 (Ghodbundar-Virar). It is hoped that MMRDA may commence construction work for Metro 10,11,12 and 13 from next year. 

As per the latest updates, MMRDA may commence metro services on Metro 2A and Metro 7 corridors in May 2021. The trial run may commence in January 2021.
