UPMRC receives 7 bids for Kanpur Metro's Underground Construction Contract

Lucknow, India (Urban Transport News): The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (UPMRC) on 30th September 2020 revaeled that they have received 7 (seven) bids from the major conscrution firms  for the construction of 8.621 km underground section of Kanpur Metro Rail Project.

UPMRC has opened technical bids of contract package KNPCC-05 on 30th Septmber 2020. The following seven firms have submitted thier bids in the tendering process:

  1. Larsen & Toubro (L&T)
  2. Afcons Infrastructure Limited
  3. Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co. Ltd. (STEC)
  4. Doğuş Construction
  5. JMC – CAI JV
  6. Sam (India) Builtwell – Gulermak JV
  7. Tata Projects Ltd. (TPL)

The tender notice for this contract package was issued on 6th July 2020 by UMPRC. The estimated value of contract is Rs 1,400 crore.

The scope of work includes design and construction of Tunnel from start of elevated ramp (after Motijheel Station) to end of Nayaganj station including four underground metro stations (viz. Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha and Nayaganj) and ramp including Architectureal finishes, E&M, TVS, ECS etc. on Corridor-1 of Kanpur Metro Rail Project at Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India.

This section is part of 23.785 km long Corridor-I of Phase I of Kanpur Metro Project. Out of, 9-km long elevated section between IIT Kanpur - Motijheel is being constructed by Afcons Infrastructure Limited. This section is being financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) through a €650 million (approx. Rs. 5406.50 crore) loan.

In recent intraction with Urban Transport News, Kumar Keshav, Managing Director of UPMRC said that UPMRC is committed to the goal of completing the priority section (IIT Kanpur-Motijheel) of Kanpur Metro by December 2021 and commence operations of the entire 23.785 km comprising 22 stations from IIT Kanpur to Naubasta by end of 2024.
