CRUT to procure 200 new Electric Buses to strengthen Urban Mobility in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, India (Urban Transport News): In a bid to further expand its services and cater to the transportation needs of the capital region, the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has announced plans to procure 200 additional electric buses by the end of this year. The decision comes as CRUT, which operates the highly popular MoBus service, aims to enhance its existing fleet and extend its coverage across significant areas of the capital region.

During an event where feedback and grievances related to the MoBus service were being addressed, CRUT's Managing Director, Arun Bothra, made the significant announcement. "We began with 200 buses and a modest ridership in 2018," stated Bothra, highlighting the service's steady growth. Over time, the number of buses has increased to 405, and the ridership has experienced a significant surge. "Considering the rising demand and the service's increasing popularity, we have decided to augment our existing fleet with 200 additional electric buses," added Bothra.

With this new addition, CRUT's fleet in the capital region will reach a total of 605 buses. Presently, the organization already operates 50 electric buses, and the forthcoming acquisitions will also be electric vehicles. Bothra revealed that plans are underway to initiate the procurement process for the new electric buses.

Currently serving 58 routes across the city region, including Cuttack and Puri, the MoBus service initially started with 24 routes. However, with the introduction of the 200 new buses, CRUT aims to expand its reach further and introduce additional routes to cover extensive parts of the capital region.

The decision to procure more electric buses reflects CRUT's commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly transportation options. By bolstering the MoBus service with a larger fleet of electric vehicles, the organization seeks to provide efficient, reliable, and environmentally conscious commuting solutions for the residents of the capital region.
