Kochi Metro to open Maharaja’s College-Thykkoodam stretch on September 3

Kochi (Urban Transport News): Ahead of commissioning of 5.65 km long Maharaja’s College-Thykkoodam stretch of Kochi Metro Rail project, Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) will conduct a two-days crucial safety inspection from 30th August - 31st August. The CMRS team will inspect all five stations namely Ernakulam South, Kadavanthra, Elamkulam, Vyttila, and Thykkoodam. In the two-day crucial safety inspection, the CMRS team will mainly inspect the various civil structures like pile foundation, piers, girders, special bridges, and steel bridges. Once the CMRS is satisfied, he will issue the safety clearance which will enable the opening of Metro services for the public.

The CMRS team will also inspect the bearings and various design aspects, various elements of the metro track like gradients, horizontal curve, cross-level, derailment guard, welding joints and turn-outs. In the electrical side, the team will inspect lift and escalators installed at the stations, fire hydrant and firefighting system, third rail, auxiliary and traction substations, emergency tripping switch (ETS) and emergency telephone lines. In the signalling side, the team will inspect signalling system, passenger help point (PHP), PAS/PIDS installed at the platforms, signalling equipment rooms (SER), telecom equipment rooms (TER), UPS rooms and Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) facilities.

The team will also inspect, passenger facilities like station access, entrance gates and signages etc. Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has already announced the inauguration date of the Maharaja’s College-Thykkoodam stretch for the public and invitations are being sent to the guests.

According to the invitation letter, Maharaja’s College-Thykkoodam stretch will be inaugurated on September 3 by the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Union Housing & Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. Apart from this, foundation stone laying of Petta-SN Junction stretch and groundbreaking of the first terminal of Kochi Water Metro will also be done.
