Metroman Sreedharan inspects Jammu Metro Rail routes

Jammu (Urban Transport News): The state administration has speed up the process to fulfill the dream of Metro in Jammu and Srinagar city. After taking charge of Chief Consultant of the Mass Rapid Transit System, Metroman Dr. E. Sreedharan, who reached in Jammu for the first time, inspected the proposed corridor in the city on Saturday with the officials. Housing and Urban Development Department's Principal Secretary Dheeraj Gupta told Sreedharan that two corridors have been proposed by the Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) Limited which has prepared the DPR for the Jammu Light Metro Rail project. He gave detailed information about both of the proposed corridors.

After this the team visited Kheri, Jainipur, New Plat, Ambfala, Raw Cantonment, Parade, Exhibition grounds, Jammu University, Railway Station and Trikuta City. The Chief Secretary said that the Metro stations will be built at places where more people travel and having more traffic issues. After visiting the entire area, Sreedharan also suggested many changes in the proposed routes. He also discussed with the officials on technical aspects suggested by RITES.

On this occasion, Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, Sanjeev Verma of Jammu, Raghav Langer, CEO of J & K IRA, Ramesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Additional Secretary in Housing and Urban Development Department, Narendra Khajuria, Chief Engineer, Naseer Gony, Chief Town Planner, Iftikhar Khan were also present. RITES Limited has prepared detailed project reports for the Light Metro Rail project in Jammu and Srinagar. According to the Master Plan of the year 2045 in both these cities, it was informed about its modernization along with increasing the transport facility. According to the DPR, the about 90 kilometers metro network will be expanded in first phase. Out of this, the metro rail network will cover a distance of 54 km in Srinagar and 36 km network in Jammu City.
