PCMC earns top honors at the 16th Urban Mobility India Conference 2023

New Delhi, India (Urban Transport News): The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has achieved a momentous triumph, securing the esteemed top honor at the esteemed Urban Mobility India Conference 2023, hosted by the Ministry of Urban Development under the Government of India. This notable recognition underscores PCMC's visionary and innovative approach to urban transportation, cementing its position as a frontrunner in the domain of progressive urban planning and development.

Officials commended PCMC's forward-thinking urban transport strategy, which was showcased during the conference. The strategy highlighted the implementation of dedicated cycle paths and pedestrian walkways along crucial routes, such as the Pimple Saudagar area, Sangvi-Kivle road, and Nashik Phata-Wakad road. Notably, PCMC's steadfast commitment to a No Vehicle Use (NMT) policy within its jurisdiction served as a distinguishing factor, setting it apart from its peers in the urban transport sphere.

The commendable achievement of the city was further highlighted when it was honored with the prestigious "City with Best Non-Motorised Transport System" award at the renowned Urban Mobility India 2023 (UMI) awards ceremony, presented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). This recognition was primarily attributed to the outstanding efforts undertaken in establishing an NMT-friendly neighborhood in Pimple Saudagar.

Emphasizing a dedicated focus on fostering community engagement and ensuring secure connectivity, the Pimple Saudagar area has flourished into a prominent NMT hub, boasting an extensive network spanning over 90 kilometers of people-centric streets. This network comprises segregated cycle tracks and well-maintained footpaths, significantly enhancing accessibility, fostering social cohesion, and encouraging active lifestyles for both residents and professionals commuting to the esteemed Hinjewadi IT Park.

The collective success of this initiative can be attributed to the concerted efforts of various departments within the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and Pimple Saudagar City Square Corporation Limited (PCSCL). The recognition received underscores the collaborative commitment of the city's public representatives and various departments toward nurturing sustainable development and propelling the city forward as one of the fastest-growing urban centers, distinguished by its vibrant landscape and potential for sustainable growth and progress.

The award ceremony, held on Sunday, October 29, marked a significant milestone for PCMC, surpassing fierce competition from cities across India. The award was presented to Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh by Manoj Joshi, Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, during the 16th Urban Transport Development Conference at the Manekshaw Center in Delhi.
