Sanjay Jain assumes charge as CMD of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation

New Delhi, India (Urban Transport News): In a significant development for the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC), Sanjay Kumar Jain, an esteemed officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Services (IRTS) from the 1990 batch, has officially assumed the role of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) today.

Mr. Jain, a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA), brings to the table over three decades of diverse experience in leadership roles across policy-making, commercial ventures, and developmental projects within the Government of India and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). His distinguished career includes crucial positions in the Ministry of Railways, PSUs, and the Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

During his tenure as Group General Manager (North Zone), IRCTC, Mr. Jain played a pivotal role in elevating the luxury train Maharajas' Express with innovative marketing initiatives. He also introduced India's first 'Executive Lounge' at the New Delhi Railway Station, setting a new standard for passenger amenities. Under his leadership, the tourism business of IRCTC in the North Zone witnessed a remarkable 35-fold growth over five years.

While serving as Divisional Railway Manager in Mumbai, Mr. Jain demonstrated effective leadership by overseeing the largest Suburban Railway Network, providing daily services to approximately 40 lakh commuters. His commitment to the Swachhata Mission resulted in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) being honored with the "Best Iconic Swachhata Place Award" by the Jal Shakti Ministry. Initiatives such as the Heritage Conservation of Mumbai Byculla Railway Station and the operation of the first all-women-run railway station at Matunga earned him accolades.

Mr. Jain's contributions to the railway sector have not gone unnoticed. He has been twice honored with the prestigious Minister of Railways award for meritorious services, first in 1999 as Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Danapur), and later in 2019 as Divisional Railway Manager/Mumbai CSMT Central Railway.
