Dehradun, India (Urban Transport News): The Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) in its recent meeting on Thursday approved 73-km long Deharadun-Haridwar-Rishikesh Metro Rail corridor in Uttrakhand. The estimated cost of the project would be Rs 40,150 crore.
The decision was taken by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat who had chaired the meeting of UMTA. The proposal of the metro rail corridor from the Nepali Farm to the Vidhan sabha in Dehradun was also approved.
Madan Kaushik, spokesperson for Uttarkhand Government said that the government has also decided to simplify the traffic within Doon city and Haridwar city. Under this,
ropeways will be built in Dehradun city. While Personal Rapid Transport (PRT) will be operated in Haridwar city.
According to Kaushik, the government plans to operate ropeway in Haridwar from Har ki Podi to Chandi Devi. Similarly, it has been agreed to connect Neelkanth with Ropeway from Rishikesh.
Here are more details about the project:
- The length of the Dehradun-Haridwar-Rishikesh Metro corridor will be 73 km long. Of which, a 10 km long metro track will be constructed in Dehradun city.
- The construction of the project would cost Rs 550 crores per kilometer.
- The project is to be completed in two phases. In the first phase, a total of 73 km long metro track is to be built from Haridwar to Rishikesh and Dehradun to ISBT. Its first station is proposed to be built near the bridge Jatwara in Jwalapur Haridwar. From here the track will pass through the interiors of Haridwar city.
- Passing parallel to Haridwar-Rishikesh road through the railway station, bus station, near Harki Padi, its end will be close to the Chandrabhaga bridge in Rishikesh. 10 stations are proposed on the 32 km long track between Haridwar to Rishikesh.
- An Interchange station will be built in Nepali Farm, from here a separate line will start for Dehradun. The other end of which will be close to ISBT in Dehradun. There are also 10 stations to be built on the 41 km long corridor from Nepali Farm to ISBT.
- The average speed of the metro is only 35 km per hour. But since the stations are proposed at a considerable distance between Dehradun to Nepali Farm, the average speed here can go up to 40.
- Outer metro is also being considered in Dehradun. Under this, there is a proposal to take a metro from Premnagar in Raun to Raipur via the heart of the city. However, this is still a very early thought. The initial workout is currently going on.
According to Jitendra Tyagi, Managing Director, Uttarakhand Metro Rail Corporation, the metro is basically designed to solve the problem of urban traffic. For this, ideally, one station is made every one to one and a half kilometers.
According to the preliminary report prepared by DMRC for the track, according to the proposed track from Dehradun ISBT to Nepali Farm and then Haridwar-Rishikesh, the proposed track will run completely along NH.
This entire corridor will be almost elevated (over the road). It also includes stations. This reduces the cost of the project by almost half, as well as the problem of displacing people.
