Mahindra Electric stops production of its first electric vehicle

Bengaluru (Urban Transport News): The leading car manufacturer company Mahindra Electric Mobility Limited has stopped productions of Mahindra e2o Plus electric car citing low demand in the market. The four-door Mahindra e2o Plus electric car was launched back in October 2016. In 2013, Mahindra had launched its first two-door electric vehicle Mahindra e2o and since then its production was continued till launching the new four-door variant Mahindra e2o plus. This electric vehicle was the first electric car launched by Mahindra Electric with aims to promote electric mobility in the country. According to sources, the production of the electric vehicle has been stopped due to low demands in the market. The company has produced its last e2o plus on 31st March 2019. However, the company aims to utilize its production capacity to launch newer electric cars like eKUV100 and XUV300. There are many owners of Mahindra e2o and e2o Plus who continue to have a great experience with the electric car in the country. Ranjan Ray, who became the first e2o owner last year, to have completed 1 lakh kilometres in his electric car. According to him, he spent only Rs 70,000 on electricity, which is much lesser than what he would have spent on petrol/diesel fuel for driving similar no of kilometres. The battery of his car is working in very good condition since the purchase of the car. The Mahindra e2o Plus was first made in India electric car which was produced at the company plant in Karnataka. The car was initially produced four variants namely P2, P4, P6 and P8. In a single charge P8 variant recorded the highest driving range of 140 km while the other variants like P2, P4 and P6 offered 110 km. But due to low demand, the company has stopped productions of P2 and P8 variants in last year, and only P4 and P6 variants were made available for sale. The company has showcased new electric car Mahindra e-KUV100 at the 2018 Auto Expo and announced to launch this later this year.
