New Delhi (Urban Transport News): Working towards new ideas, Uber has launched a new journey planning feature ‘Public Transport’ in New Delhi, which will integrate Uber App with Delhi Metro and DTC bus service. The company has chosen New Delhi as the second Asia Pacific city to get this feature, to further reiterate their commitment to the strategic market and one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
The services started from today and can be used by Delhiites. It will make travel easier for commuters because they will receive the information they need to make the smartest possible journey options.
How to use
When app users enter a destination, they will see a new option ‘Public Transport’ alongside ‘UberGO’, ‘Premier’ and ‘UberPool.’ After selecting the ‘Public Transport’ feature, users will be able to see the fastest and cheapest routes; real-time schedules; including departure time for public transportation, including Delhi Metro and DTC buses and walking directions, to and from nearby Metro stations and bus stops.
The new announcement will allow commuters to call for a ride at the tap of a button and solve their first/last mile connectivity challenges, which comes shortly after Uber won a public bid to offer its mobility services across 210 metro stations of
Delhi Metro Rail Network.
Partnership with Delhi Metro
Uber has also announced ‘model Metro station’ in partnership with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to showcase future smart mobility solutions and how 'public transport' can be integrated with its multi-modal vision for urban mobility.
"It highlights a breadth of first and last-mile options with organized and dedicated pick-up and drop-off areas to complement public transportation. Services such as UberGO, Pool, Moto, Auto, Bikesharing and the upcoming Uber Bus will highlight the power of Uber’s platform. Additionally, Uber’s Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAV) will benefit differently-abled riders", said in the
official statement issued by Uber.
"We expect the integration of mass-transit systems and ridesharing on one app to improve congestion, provide cleaner air, cut down the Indian capital’s carbon footprint and also help leapfrog car ownership to usher in a new era of smarter mobility", added in the statement.
