India and France sign MoU to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

New Delhi: Govt. of India and France Government have signed an agreement under which to provide relief to India for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions related to urban transport in Nagpur, Kochi and Ahmedabad and improving the continuous transport policy at the national level. . The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation said in a statement that India and France have signed an agreement to implement 'Mobilize Your City' (MYC) International Program. This agreement was signed in presence of Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri and Ambassador of France Alexander Jigler in India. On behalf of this agreement India's OSD and ex-Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Affairs Mukund Kumar Sinha and AFD signed the Regional Director Agency François de-Development (AFD) Nicholson Fordyge. This Mobilize Your City (MYC) is part of an international program, supported by the governments of France and Germany. The purpose of the MYC is to support the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions related to urban transportation in three pilot cities- Nagpur, Kochi and Ahmedabad and to help India to improve the continuous transport policy at the national level. Apart from technical support activities, the three pilot cities selected under the program will also benefit from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Supporting the planning and implementation of sustainable urban transport projects in the key components of the proposed assistance, support in strengthening institutional capacity for regulatory operations and planning of urban movement and exchange of ideas with other cities of the country about best practices. What is 'Mobilise Your City'? The 'Mobilise Your City' is a part of an international initiative, which is supported by the French and the German Governments and was launched at 21st Conference of Parties (COP21) meeting in December 2015. Based on a proposal made by AFD in 2015, the European Union has agreed to provide funds of Euro 3.5 million through the AFD to contribute to specific investments and technical assistance components within the Mobilise Your City (MYC) programme in India.
