Vishal Infra awarded ₹153 crore contract for Prayagraj Airport New Terminal

Prayagraj, India (Urban Transport News): In a significant development, Vishal Infrastructure Ltd. has secured a construction contract worth Rs. 152.87 crore from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the expansion of Prayagraj Airport, formerly known as Allahabad Airport. This expansion project includes the construction of a new terminal building, a second link taxiway, and an apron expansion at Prayagraj Airport, situated in the Bamrauli suburb of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Prayagraj Airport holds the distinction of being one of India's oldest airports and serves as the domestic airport for the city of Prayagraj. This airport operates under the joint supervision of the Indian Air Force and the Airports Authority of India.

The current terminal at Prayagraj Airport, spanning 6700 sqm and equipped with 2 aerobridges, commenced operations in 2018. Impressively, Tata Projects (TPL) completed the civil construction of this terminal in just 11 months, making it one of the fastest-constructed airport terminals in the country. The existing terminal has the capacity to handle 320 passengers per hour.

The upcoming new terminal, strategically located east of the existing one, will encompass an area of 9500 sqm and will feature 4 aerobridges. This expansion will significantly bolster the airport's ability to handle passengers. Additionally, the enlarged apron will be capable of accommodating up to 15 aircraft simultaneously.

AAI initiated the tender process for the terminal's civil construction work in May 2023, with an estimated cost of Rs. 172.35 crore and a completion deadline of 455 days (approximately 1.24 years).

The evaluation of technical bids in mid-July revealed four participating companies: Amara Raja Infra, Bridge and Roof Co India, G S Express, and Vishal Infrastructure. Following the evaluation, GS Express' technical bid was deemed non-compliant with the tender conditions and subsequently disqualified.

The financial bids were opened at the end of July, ultimately designating Vishal Infrastructure as the lowest bidder for the project.

Financial Bid Values

  • Vishal Infrastructure Ltd.: Rs. 152.87 crore (L1)
  • Bridge and Roof Co India Ltd.: Rs. 172.00 crore (L2)
  • Amara Raja Infra Pvt Ltd.: Rs. 195.27 crore (L3)

AAI's project encompasses the construction of the new terminal building, the second link taxi track, apron expansion, and associated works at Prayagraj Airport, all to be executed on a design and build basis.
