Mumbai, India (Urban Transport News): Major Indian infrastructure firm Shapoorji Pallonji has announced the appointment of Akhil Kumar Gupta as the CEO of Shapoorji Pallonji Engineering & Construction with effect from July 1, 2022. Additionally, he would be Executive Director on the Board of Shapoorji Pallonji and Company Private Limited. He succeeds Subodh Dixit, Executive Director and will be based at our Head Office in Mumbai.
Gupta has over 40 years of industry experience and has been with AFCONS Infrastructure, since 2014. He was Executive Director (Operations) and a whole-time Member of the Board at AFCONS, responsible for the Surface Transport (Roads, Railways and Bridges) business line, both in India and overseas. He has led several large and prestigious projects and spearheaded the significant growth of the business line, in India, South Asia, Africa and Middle East.
Prior to joining AFCONS, Gupta was Managing Director of Petron Civil and has delivered multiple construction projects for IT Parks, Cement Plants, Power Plants, Refineries & Petrochemical complexes, etc. He has also had long and successful stints with Punj Lloyd and IRCON.
Gupta is a Graduate in Civil Engineering from IIT Roorkee and a Post-Graduate in Management from IIT Delhi.
Gupta has imbibed the Shapoorji Pallonji Group culture and comes with a detailed understanding of SP E&C business and its markets and will be able to provide continuity of purpose. During his tenure at Afcons, Mr. Gupta displayed significant drive and energy as he steered the Surface Transport business line, strengthening it for the future. It is this commitment, together with his industry experience, strategic vision, constant customer focus and proven record of delivery that makes him the strongest candidate to lead SP E&C in the next stages of its development.
Gupta will spend the first few months in his new position further familiarising himself with the SP E&C business, and will therefore have the opportunity to meet with many of our stakeholders in the coming weeks and months. Subodh Dixit will continue to be available and accessible in the SP Group, to ensure a smooth transition of leadership.
