Bhopal (Urban Transport News): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath laid the foundation stone for the Bhopal Metro Rail Project costing Rs 6,941 crore today. Renamed Bhopal Metro as "Bhoj Metro". While laying the foundation stone of the Bhopal Metro Rail project in Bhopal, Chief Minister announced that the Bhopal Metro will be named after Raja Bhoj and known as "Bhoj Metro". He said that Bhopal is the city of Raja Bhoj and hence the metro here will be named after him.
He said that Raja Bhoj was an Indian king from the Paramara dynasty and his kingdom was located around the Malwa region in central India. Speaking at the event, Kamal Nath said that the metro in other cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad are named after the cities. However, the metro in Bhopal will be called as "Bhoj Metro".
Former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, State Housing & Urban Development Minister Jaivardhan Singh, Public Relations Minister PC Sharma, Mayor of Bhopal Municipal Corporation Alok Sharma and officials from MP Metro Rail Co. Limited were also present. It is pertinent to mention here that the construction work on corridor I of Bhopal Metro Rail project already started in the tenure of Former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.
The tender for design and construction of 6.225 km long elevated viaduct and stations between AIIMS and Subhash Nagar (excluding stations) including entry and exit of Depot already awarded to Dilip Buildcon Limited. The company has started the metro construction work for the last six months.
On August 20, a memorandum of undertaking (MoU) was signed in New Delhi between Government of India, Government of Madhya Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation for Bhopal & Indore Metro Rail Project.
