New Delhi (Urban Transport News): With the construction of the Phase-IV project of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the metro rail network will be spread over the entire Delhi. The metro connectivity will help people to reach from one end to the other end of Delhi in the small time span. Earlier, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) gave the gift of the communication-based train control (CBTC) trains in Phase-III project. In the Phase-IV, DMRC is going to make some new and advanced changes. The DMRC will construct the double-decker elevated corridors in the line of the Jaipur Metro Rail project.
The Metro track will be built above the 55-kilometer elevated corridor of proposed three metro lines in Phase-4, whereas the bottom flyover will be built. With this, the picture of infrastructure development in Delhi will change new look of the project. At present, the network of Delhi Metro is 317 km long.
70 percent of the phase-IV network will be elevated, but there is no double-decker corridor built in the present network of Delhi Metro. In phase 4, six new metro lines are to be built by 2024 with a total length of 103.93 km. 35.92 kilometers of this metro network will be underground, while 68.01 kilometers will be elevated. The Delhi government has approved the detailed project report (DPR) of phase-IV to construct six new Metro corridors.
The Delhi Metro will construct elevated metro corridors as well as flyovers in the phase-IV project. This type of experiment will be done for the first time in Delhi. There was no provision of construction of flyovers in the DPR (Detail Project Report) prepared by the DMRC. Therefore, the design of a new corridor will be outlined. Delhi Government will take full expenditure on making flyovers.
Therefore, the responsibility of preparing design will also be given to the DMRC. After the construction, the metro on the elevated corridor, the vehicle on the flyover below metro corridor and the small vehicles on the road will be run with speed. This facility will also help Delhi to reduce the traffic jams.
After the approval of the project of Phase-4 by the Delhi Government cabinet, the file will now be sent to the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs. After approval from the Ministry, work on the project will start. It is expected that the approval of the Central Government will not take more time and the construction work will start within three months.
