Jaipur, India (Urban Transport News): The Government of Rajasthan has appointed Dr. Samit Sharma as Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) with effect from 9th February 2020 as the post was vacant for a long time.
Dr. Sharma takes his charge from Mukesh Kumar Singhal, the ex-DMRC non-IAS officer who has been given temporary charge of the post. Singhal is presently working in the capacity of the Director (Operation & Systems) after promoted from Executive Director post. Dr. Samit Sharma is a 2004 batch IAS officer from the Rajasthan cadre and before posting to Jaipur Metro, he was working as Commissioner in the Labour Department and Managing Director in Rajasthan Skill & Livelihoods Development Corporation (RSLDC) in Government of Rajasthan.
Before this, he had worked as the Mission Director, National Health Mission and as the Commissioner, Industry, Corporate Social Responsibility Department and as Principal Secretary, Industries Department in Government of Rajasthan. Dr. Samit Sharma is possessed a Bachelor's Degree in Medicine Surgery and completed his M.D. in pediatrics from Rajasthan. Before joining civil services, he practiced in different hospitals of Rajasthan for nearly five years as a physician.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) is struggling with the financial crisis and fulfilling its operational costs by selling some unused assets. However, the corporation is in hope that after the opening of its Phase 1A corridor, it will see some positive changes in passenger ridership. Work on the 2.4-km long underground section between Chandpole and Badi Chuapr corridor (Phase 1B) of Jaipur Metro in full swing and the JMRC is expected to complete it by end of this month.
After that, they will invite the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) to carry out a safety inspection of the section. The internal trial runs on this section is going on for 2-3 months.
