Lucknow (Urban Transport News): The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) is taking much efforts to start construction work on Kanpur Metro and Meerut Metro rail projects. The Yogi Government want to expedite all metro projects proposed in the state. Sources said that LMRC is preparing tender documents for procurement of metro coaches for both Kanpur and Meerut Metro rail projects. In this regards, call for tenders will be notified soon.
The finalisation of the bids received for the construction work are in process and the work will be awarded soon to the winning contractors. Commencement of construction work of Kanpur Metro rail project is expected in September this year. In a high level meeting held on Tuesday, LMRC Managing Director Kumar Keshav and vice-chairman of Kanpur Development Authority Kinjal Singh along with other senior officials decided to run the Metro train in Kanpur by July 2021. In the first phase of the Kanpur Metro, the train would run on an elevated track between IIT and Moti Jheel.
Addressing the officials in the meeting Kumar Keshav said that all hurdles should be removed before commencing the work of the project and we sought a no-objection certificate from the departments concerned. He said that all issues related to the project must be solved by the end of July so that work tenders could be floated and construction work commences from September. After the meeting, Kumar Keshav has inspected the entire Metro rail route as well as the sites fixed for the construction of stations. He also witnessed the ongoing construction of Metro yard on the Polytechnic premises and expressed displeasure over the slow speed of work.
The construction work of metro yard had started in October 2016, but only 60% has been completed till now. He directed the officials to complete the work at the earliest. During his inspection of the metro office, Kumar Keshav expressed dissatisfaction over the space available at the Metro office situated at Vastra Bhawan near Gurudev Palace. He directed the officials that the site was not appropriate for the project and directed them to find a new place for the office. Keshav directed the officials to build a 7-metre-wide road on both sides of Metro tracks so that movement of vehicles would not be effected due to the work.
He directed forest department officials not to unnecessarily cut the trees coming under the ambit of the project. Instead of cutting, efforts should be made to shift as many trees as possible. Concluding the inspection Keshav also collected information related to electricity poles and PNJ and potable water lines coming in the route the metro project from the officials of KESCO, CUGL and Jal Nigam.
