Bengaluru (Urban Transport News): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) has issued the letter of acceptance (LoA) to BEML Limited for the supply of 80 nos. Rolling Stock broad-gauge metro cars under 'RS15' contract. The estimated value of the contract was Rs.841 crores. As the contract was an extension of the existing previous contract, no parties participated except BEML Limited. The BEML has quoted Rs. 729 crores and bagged the contract. The scope of work includes design, manufacture, supply, testing, and commissioning of 80 nos. broad-gauge cars compatible with existing 'RS1' type trains supplied by Mitushubishi-Rotem-Mitshubishi (MRM) consortium.
A contract is an extension contract of Delhi Metro's first rolling stock 'RS1' contract. "BEML bags yet another Metro Cars Order for 80 nos from DMRC for RS15 broad gauge line valued at Rs. 729 crores. Proud to partner with DMRC in their journey of urban decongestion and contribute to mission Make in India", said in the official statement of BEML Limited. The cars supplied under this contract will be used to convert existing 6-car metro trains into 8 cars which are running in Delhi Metro's Line 1, Line 2 and Line 3. During the implementation of the first mass rapid transit system project by the DMRC for its Phase-1 of Delhi Metro Rail project, BEML and Hyundai Rotem collaborated together and signed an agreement in 2002.
The BEML became the first to indigenously manufacture Metro Cars for RS1 contract of DMRC and developed 220 metro coaches. Recently, BEML Limited has supplied the first mock coach of Mumbai Metro to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 7, 2019. According to the data shared by the company, BEML has supplied over 1,100 Metro Coaches for various MRTS projects in India.
