Bengaluru to witness transformation with ₹1,770 Crore Multi-Modal Logistics Park Project

Bengaluru, India (Urban Transport News): The logistics landscape in Bengaluru is on the cusp of a remarkable transformation as the National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a subsidiary of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), has inked a pivotal agreement for the development of a state-of-the-art multi-modal logistics park (MMLP). This groundbreaking project, which is poised to revolutionize freight logistics in the region, comes with an estimated price tag of Rs 1,770 crore.

NHLML has awarded a contract worth Rs 1,770 crore to PATH Bengaluru Logistics Park Pvt. Ltd. for development of Multi Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) at Muddelinganahalli in Bengaluru, Karnataka under PPP – DBFOT basis. The firm has to build the MMLP in two years and will provide Operation & Maintenance (O&M) service for 45 years.

Project Overview

The MMLP in Bengaluru is set to be developed under the public-private partnership model, signaling a strategic collaboration between the government's special purpose vehicle (SPV), Bengaluru MMLP, and the concessionaire SPV PATH Bengaluru Logistics Park.

Prime Location

Spanning across a sprawling 400 acres in Muddelinganahalli, situated in the Bengaluru rural district of Karnataka, the MMLP enjoys a strategic location. It is strategically positioned adjacent to the upcoming KIADB Industrial Area on the east side, nestled against NH 648 (Dabbaspet to Hosur) on the west, with the Satellite Town Ring Road to the north and the Bengaluru-Hubli-Mumbai rail line to the south.

Proximity

Bengaluru MMLP is well-connected to key transportation hubs, with Bengaluru Airport just 58 km away and Bengaluru city railway station a mere 48 km distant.

Phased Development

The project is set to be executed in three phases, with an ambitious timeline. The first phase is anticipated to be completed within a swift two-year span. Over a concession period spanning 45 years, the MMLP aims to handle an impressive 30 million metric tonnes of cargo, significantly elevating the industrial prowess of the region, encompassing areas like Bengaluru and Tumkur.

Government SPV

To facilitate the project's seamless development, a government special purpose vehicle (SPV) has been established in partnership between National Highways Logistics Management Limited, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, and Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB).

In Line with PM Gati Shakti

This transformative project aligns harmoniously with the vision of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, a strategic initiative by the Government of India. It seeks to enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of India's freight logistics sector by enabling efficient intermodal freight movement, reducing overall freight costs and transit times, improving warehousing capabilities, enhancing tracking and traceability of consignments, and ultimately bolstering the efficiency and effectiveness of the Indian logistics sector.

This multi-modal logistics park endeavor in Bengaluru is a milestone achievement, poised to not only boost regional development but also pave the way for a more efficient and competitive logistics ecosystem in India.

NHLML is planning to set-up 35 MMLP across India in the next 2-3 yrs.
