CM Kamal Nath lays foundation of Rs7,500 crore Indore Metro rail project

Bhopal (Urban Transport News): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath laid the foundation stone for the Indore Metro Rail Project costing Rs 7500.80 crore today. Chief Minister said that the completion of the project will accelerate the development of Indore. Chief Minister Nath while performing the "Bhoomi Poojan" of this much-awaited Indore Metro rail project said that ten years ago when he was the Minister of Urban Development at the Center, he had given approval for Bhopal and Indore Metro and asked the then government to make its detailed project report (DPR).

Today, after ten years, the Metro Rail Project of Indore is going to start. Chief Minister said that its construction, operation and maintenance activities will increase employment opportunities in Indore and surrounding areas. With the reduction in road accidents, the pressure on traffic will come down and people will have the most reliable and safe public transport available. He said that this will beautify the city and reduce pollution. Chief Minister said that the Indore Metro is need of the hour is to expand the cities and also to arrange public transport for the convenience of the people. With this in view, the Metro Rail Project is starting today.

We will have to work with new planning for the increasing population of cities. Chief Minister said that cooperation of the government, as well as the public, is necessary for the expansion and development of cities. He said that cities like Noida and Gurugram have developed from this perspective. He said that the metro rail project is starting in Indore. In the future, Ujjain, Rau, Dewas and Dhar districts will also be connected to this project.

On August 20, a memorandum of undertaking (MoU) was signed in New Delhi between Government of India, Government of Madhya Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation for Bhopal & Indore Metro Rail Project.

Indore Metro Project at a glance

The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of Indore Metro Rail Project near the toll block on MR-10, Indore. The total length of the project will be 31.55 km. It will have 26 stations elevated and four underground stations. In this way, a total of 30 stations will be built. The time frame for its construction has also been fixed. The elevated section from Gandhi Nagar to Indore railway station will be completed by 31 December 2022 and the underground section from Indore railway station to Gandhinagar by 31 July 2023. The depot line will be completed by 28 February 2023 and the system line will be completed by 31 August 2023.

The proposed route of the metro rail is from Bengali Square to Nanod, Bhawarsala Square and Radisson Square. Public Works Minister Sajjan Singh Verma, Home Minister Bala Bachchan, Public Health and Family Welfare Minister Tulsi Silavat, Higher Education Minister Jeetu Patwari, Urban Development and Housing Minister Jayavardhan Singh and MP Shankar Lalwani were present in the program.
