Gulermak-led JV wins Rs 1,073 crore civil contract package of Surat Metro Rail Project

Ahmedabad, India (Urban Transport News): Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRC) on 28th December 2020 opened financial bids of the first underground contract package (CS-02) of the Surat Metro Rail Project. According to the bid results, GÜLERMAK Ağır Sanayi İnşaat ve Taahhüt A.Ş.-led joint venture emerged as the lowest bidder among the other two major Indian infra contractors.

The scope of work under the contract package CS-02 includes Design, construction and completion of Underground stations and tunnel including Finishes from Kapodra Ramp to Surat Railway station from chainage 3700m to chainage 7160.6m, comprising twin bored underground tunnel between the northern ramp and Surat Railway Metro station, all cut and a cover portion including three underground stations with entry/exits & connecting subway by Box pushing method and a portion of NATM and Launching and receiving chambers of TBM  for Surat Metro Rail Project Phase – 1.

A total of 3.46 km underground stretch will be built under this contract package including three underground metro stations viz. Kapodra, Labheshwar Chowk and Central Warehouse.

A total of three bidders have submitted their bids against this contract package. The financial position of each bidder against the estimated cost of work ₹946.46 crores are as under:-

  • GÜLERMAK - SAM India Builtwell JV: ₹1,073.31 crores (L1)
  • Afcons Infrastructure Limited: ₹1,106.40 crores (L2)
  • Larsen & Toubro Limited: ₹1,152.00 crores (L3)

Tenders for the above contract was issued in July 2020 and technical bids were opened on 2nd November  2020. Now the bids sent for evaluation by the tender committee. After completion of the evaluation of bids, the letter of acceptance will be issued in favour of the lowest bidder. The contractor would have to complete the work within 40 months after receiving the LoA.

The first civil package (CS-01) of the Surat Metro Rail project has been awarded to Sadbhav Engg Ltd - SP Singla Constructions Pvt Ltd JV with a contract value of Rs 779.73 crores. J Kumar Infraprojects has won the third civil contract package (CS-03) at Rs 941.80 crores. Railway consultancy firm RITES Limited is carrying out a study for multi-modal integration planning for the proposed metro project.
