New Delhi (Urban Transport News): The first engine-less semi high-speed train (Train 18) of Indian Railways has made a new record on speed trial test yesterday. During the train-18 trials, the speed was more than 180 km per hour and thus now it became the fastest running train in the country. The maximum operating speed of Train 18 can be up to 220 kmph. Earlier, on the Indian tracks, the train was run at the speed of 180, but it was the Spanish train. The Train-18 which is called the Next Generation Train has completed its trial tests on the Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani Route yesterday. During the trial on Saturday, the train ran with a speed of 170 kilometers per hour, while on Sunday it set a new record. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has shared a video and said that there are no shocks observed in the train at such speed. The water bottles are shown in the video, which was quite stable.
“Train 18 has clocked 180 kmph speed during the trials today. While many trials are still left, this is a milestone for Train 18. The data is yet to be analysed, but I can confirm that Train 18 achieved the 180 kmph speed today,” said Sudhanshu Mani, General Manager, ICF Chennai on Sunday.
This is a train is manufactured in Chennai's Integral Coach Factory (ICF), which will not need any engine to run. The first coach, which has a driving system, also has 44 seats. The train is fully computerized. It has been specially designed on the model of the bullet train. About 100 crore rupees have been spent on the manufacturing of the train 18, which has been prepared in 18 months time.
