Kanpur (Urban Transport News): The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC), which is implementing Kanpur Metro rail project, is all set to demolish three hostels to start construction of Metro yard on the campus of Government Polytechnic. Out of, work on demolition of one hostel is already started and the work is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
According to the detailed project report of the Kanpur Metro rail project, a metro yard has been planned to build with a budget of Rs 105 crore on the Polytechnic ground. Tender for the construction of metro yard already floated by the LMRC and the bids will be opened on September 23. The lowest bidder will be awarded the contract to construct the yard. The LMRC has also identified the trees which need either to cut or shifted from the way of metro yard construction.
Recently, LMRC has issued Letter of Award (LoA) to AFCONS Infrastructure Limited to construct viaducts of phase I of Kanpur Metro Rail project. The construction work of viaduct and metro stations including track laying is very likely to start from October. In the Kanpur metro yard at Government Polytechnic, a total of 24 bogies of metro trains would be parked. Recently, LMRC has made some changes in the alignment of Kanpur Metro to avoid demolishing a portion of the newly constructed reception complex on GSVM Medical College and its associated Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) hospital.
The revised alignment also spared the oxygen plant and canteen on the hospital campus, which needed to be shifted for the construction of the metro corridor. In the first phase of Kanpur Metro, a total of nine elevated metro station will be constructed between IIT Kanpur and Motijheel in Swaroop Nagar. The metro construction work is expected to commence in October and is likely to be completed by the end of 2021.
