Moscow, Russia (Urban Transport News): Electric buses were launched in Moscow more than 4 years ago, in 2018. In the meantime, this innovative surface transport has proved its efficiency. In 2022 Moscow electric buses carried more than 117 million passengers.

“On behalf of the Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, we continue to develop environmentally friendly transport by opening new electric bus fleets and purchasing innovative Russian-made electric vehicles. In 2022 the innovative eco-transport has transported more than 117 million passengers. Besides, last year we have launched 13 electric bus routes that have been used by more than 5.2 million passengers. Replacing diesel buses with electric ones on these bus routes will help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 5.2 thousand tons per year,” said Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.

Today the number of electric bus routes in the city continues to increase. Now 1050 electric buses serve 79 bus routes in Moscow. Every day they transport more than 430 thousand passengers. Besides, recently the Russian manufacturer KAMAZ has started to accept 33 innovative improved electric buses at the SVARZ eco-plant. The updated models have more noticeable route number, the doors of the electric bus open faster. Besides, electric buses are equipped with the heater and long-lasting floor covering. The power reserve has been increased up to 90 km.

“Moscow continues to adapt infrastructure and urban transport in accordance with the Green Agenda. Moscow's eco-friendly transport fleet is considered to be the largest in Europe. According to the operational statistics, electric buses today are the most reliable type of surface public transport. They are convenient and safe, so they quickly became popular and received popular response and trust by citizens. This year we will announce a new tender for the supply of 1,000 - 1,300 new electric buses in 2023 and 2024, including the supply of the articulated electric buses, noted Nikolay Asaul, CEO of Mosgortrans.
