Ms. Sandhya Pillai is an independent Maritime Lawyer handling both contentious and non-contentious matters including Ship sale and purchase, ship arrests, insurance matters, crew claims, charter party disputes, P&I Club matters, Insolvency and Bankruptcy amongst others. Additionally, she acts as a consultant for shipping related matters. She’s also instrumental in setting up SSS Maritime Services and Consultants Pvt. Ltd. and acts as Director (Legal) for the company. She set up an Indian Company in Mumbai for a fixed premium P&I Club and acted as the Companys’ Director. With her previous experience of working as a P&I correspondent, this role helped her to further consolidate her knowledge and expertise in shipping insurance. Sandhya was also previously Director of Narottam Morarjee Institute of Shipping where she helped train and further the cause of promoting shipping by providing quality education in shipping to the youth. During her tenure in NMIS, the Institute was awarded the “Best Maritime Training Institute “ at the MAALA awards. She has been featured in various magazines like Sailor Today, Marine World and others for her contribution as a shipping professional. From being the wife of a Master Mariner and sailing for almost 11 years, a lecturer in English literature, a P&I professional and a marine lawyer it has been a most enlightening journey. It has made her especially sensitive to the issue of seafarers and their well-being. Sandhya is also a columnist for a shipping newspaper.
