New Delhi, India (Urban Transport News): In a strategic move, Siemens, the renowned German multinational conglomerate, is eyeing the establishment of a pioneering hub for mass transit and urban transport solutions in India. This initiative aligns with India's rapidly expanding rail transit market, offering a glimpse into the conglomerate's commitment to India's burgeoning transportation needs.

Siemens' foray into creating a hub for urban transport solutions in India was propelled by a landmark achievement. The company secured a colossal contract valued at an astonishing ₹26,000 crore (approximately $3 billion) from Indian Railways. This contract represents a pivotal milestone, as Siemens will be responsible for the supply and servicing of electric locomotives for freight movement. Notably, this marks the single largest order ever received by Siemens Mobility in India.

Peter Koerte, the Chief Technology Officer and Chief Strategy Officer of Siemens AG, shared the conglomerate's vision for India. He emphasized that Siemens aims to accelerate component and locomotive manufacturing within the country. India already boasts a site dedicated to the development of railway infrastructure solutions. The conglomerate now seeks to harness India's potential as a hub for the creation of mass transit and urban transport solutions.

India has emerged as a pivotal market for Siemens, significantly contributing to the company's global revenue. With over 12,000 software developers employed in India, half of them based in Bengaluru, Siemens is committed to fostering innovation and development on Indian soil. The conglomerate's investment in India goes beyond manufacturing, marking a transformation into a technology-focused entity.

According to Koerte, India holds the eighth position in global rankings among 30 countries in terms of market size. However, when it comes to growth and incremental revenue addition, India stands out as the fastest-growing market, ranking among the top three to five geographies for Siemens. This exponential growth trajectory underscores the importance of India in Siemens' global strategy.

Siemens has demonstrated a unique approach amid geopolitical disruptions, such as the Israel-Hamas conflict and the Ukraine war. Koerte outlined the conglomerate's global strategy as a "glocal" player. Siemens, with a rich history spanning 176 years, prides itself on staying out of politics. It is a strong advocate for a multi-local strategy, preferring to design products for the global market while localizing them to cater to regional requirements.

In recent times, Siemens introduced the Siemens Xcelerator program, an open digital business platform. India plays a pivotal role in this initiative's expansion. The platform now hosts a remarkable 100 India-relevant digital use and reference cases across diverse industries, including food and beverages, data centers, commercial buildings, and power utilities.

Siemens continues to strengthen its partner ecosystem for Xcelerator, fostering collaboration with key players like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Koncept Engineers, Safex Technologies, and Sonicbolt Technologies. This partnership network is poised to drive innovation and technological advancements across various sectors.

Siemens' ambitious plan to establish a hub for urban transport solutions in India underscores the conglomerate's commitment to the country's development. With a strong focus on technology, innovation, and a "glocal" strategy, Siemens is well-positioned to play a pivotal role in shaping India's urban transport landscape, heralding a new era of progress and growth.
