UkMRC finalise DPR of Dehradun Light Metro Rail project

Dehradun (Urban Transport News): After facing all the ups and downs, the hopes of landing on the Metro Rail Project (LRTS) are now on the rise. Uttarakhand Metro Rail Corporation (UkMRC) has prepared the final Detail Project Report (DPR) of the Dehradun Light Rail Transit System based Metro project. It will be sent to the state cabinet in next month for approval. Jitendra Tyagi, Managing Director of Metro Rail Corporation said that in the first phase, two corridors inside Dehradun will be constructed in the project.

In the final DPR, they have also made some necessary modifications in the terminal stations of these two corridors. Before finalizing the DPR, Comprehensive Mobility Plan was prepared and after this, one of the two options of each corridor was finalized. Subsequently, this option in the revised DPR was made necessary amendments and fixed routes. Now according to this, the corridor will be built in the first phase.

Corridors under Dehradun Light Metro Rail Project FRI-Raipur: This corridor will initially be built up to Rispana bridge via Araghar and thereafter it will be extended to Raipur via the 6 number bridge along the river. The Metro Maintenance Depot will also be built here.

ISBT-Mussoorie Road: The corridor will connect ISBT to Mussoorie Road via Saharanpur and Canal road ahead of Madhuban Hotel. The Metro Maintenance Depot will be built at Mussoorie road.

Project surrounded by uncertainties In February 2017, after the formation of the Uttarakhand Metro Rail Corporation, Jitendra Tyagi (Ex-Director DMRC) took over the charge of the project as Managing Director. However, he had submitted the resignation to the government due to there was no progress till later. After the government's persuasion, he withdrew his resignation.
