Delhi Govt allocates ₹9,333 crore in State Budget 2023-24 for Transport sector

New Delhi, India (Urban Transport News): The Delhi Government has allocated Rs 9,333 crore for the transport infrastructure sector. Free bus rides for women commuters will continue. The government will introduce 1,900 e-buses by 2023-end and 1,500 e-scooters for last-mile connectivity. An app-based premium bus aggregator scheme will also be launched soon.

"Delhi will spend Rs 28,556 crore in next 12 years to induct electric buses. In 2023-24, Rs 3,500 crore will be set aside to improve Delhi's public transport system. Rs 1,500 crore to be spent on electrification of 57 bus depots," said Kailash Gahlot, Delhi Finance Minister while presenting state budget for 2023-24.

"Road and cleanliness is the first thing that comes to mind when people go to foreign countries. This makes us surprised and we think why such a road is not in India. The roads are being uplifted as per global standard," he added. We are going to launch a big project to strengthen and beautify road network of Delhi. 29 new flyovers underpass and bridges to be built this year. 1,600 modern zero emission electric buses to be added to the fleet.

Rs 320 crore allocated for construction of 3 unique double-decker flyovers. Three double-decker flyovers - Bhajanpura to Yamuna Vihar, Azadpur to Rani Jhansi intersections, and from Saket to Pul Prahaladpur - will be built for Delhi. The flyovers have been designed in a way that it'll save Rs 121 crore of taxpayers’ money. Rs 320 crore allocated for construction the double-decker flyovers.

"The network of Delhi Metro doubled between 2015-23. Today the number of buses has increased to 7,379, which is the highest. Today the govt has made Delhi a city of tricolors. The upcoming budget is important for Delhi as we are hosting the G20. So this budget is dedicated to a clean, beautiful and modern Delhi," Gahlot said.

In next 10 years, the agency that makes roads will have to upkeep it for ten years so that a responsibility is fixed. By the next financial year end, not even a single footpath would remain broken. Lot of dust piles on plants on the road side. They would be regularly washed. Footpath and Central verge would be regularly painted. 70 mechanical road sweeping machine and 210 anti-smog guns would be purchased for road cleaning and anti-dust operation.

Nine different schemes and programs to beautify Delhi Road network. 26 new flyover and underpass will be built. 1,600 new electric buses will come. Free world class ISBTs to be developed.
