LMRC to approach Supreme Court to get direction for Agra Metro project

Agra (Urban Transport News): The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC), which is working as consultant for Agra Metro Rail project, is not able to start the civil work of Metro due to non-receipt of permission from the Taj Trapzium Zone (TZZ) in Agra. For this, the Corporation is planning to file an appeal before the Supreme Court of India through the Uttar Pradesh Government. The corporation will seek permission to start construction work of the project in public interest. This decision was taken in the LMRC board meeting held in Lucknow on Saturday.

Decision taken in Board Meeting

In the Board meeting chaired by Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary Housing and Urban Development, Devesh Chaturvedi, Principal Secretary Housing, UP Government, has directed LMRC to take further necessary action to obtain permission for starting the project work. The Lucknow Metro has floated tenders for construction of viaducts, stations and depot for the Agra metro rail project. But due to lack of permission of TTZ, the LMRC is not able to start the Civil Work while the tender process.

Deadline to start the trial run given

In the board meeting, the UP government has directed the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation to start the priority section of metro operations on trial basis in Agra and Kanpur  by July 31, 2021. The progress report of metro projects in both the cities was reviewed. Kumar Keshav, Managing Director, Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation gave information to the Board that tender process for Kanpur Metro is also under finalization stage and once finalise, the LMRC will start the civil work soon.

Survey work completed

The LMRC team has completed survey work of all planned metro stations under the phase I of Agra Metro rail project. The project is comprise with two corridors. First corridor will cover a distance of 14 km while other corridor will cover 16 km. There will be total 30 metro stations in the metro rail network.
