New Delhi, India (Urban Transport News): Delhi Government has recommended extending the tenure of Dr. Mangu Singh in Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as Managing Director. His tenure is going to end this month on 31st March. A letter has been written by the Delhi government to the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to extend his tenure till the end of September 2021.
"A letter has been written by the government that Singh be given an extension of six months. Delhi government and the central government have an equal stake in the DMRC, and its managing director is always designated by the state government with the concurrence of the Centre," said Kailash Gahlot, Transport Minister of Delhi.
Mangu Singh was appointed as Managing Director of DMRC on 31st December 2011 and taken charge from Metroman E. Sreedharan. He is the second Managing Director of the corporation. He got his first extension in December 2016 and the second one for 3 and a half months on 15th December 2020.
If the central government approves the proposal of the Delhi government, this would be the third extension for Mangu Singh who is working with DMRC since its inception. He oversaw the work of Phase I, Phase II and Phase III of the Delhi Metro Rail Project. The construction activities for the Phase IV project has also begun under his supervision and now gained pace in the last few months.
