Agra, India (Urban Transport News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi may likely to lay the foundation stone of the Agra Metro Rail project from Delhi on 7th December 2020. Earlier, they have planned to lay foundation stone of the project on first December via virtual confrenece.
Agra District Magistrate Prabhu Nath Singh said:
The Prime Minister will be virtually inaugurating the project in the presence of the Chief Minister and other dignitaries on December 7. The required arrangements are being made.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from Lucknow will also join the event online. Preparations for the event started on Monday. Barricading has been done at the places fixed for the construction of metro stations.
The foundation stone of the first station of Agra Metro will be laid in front of TDI Mall on Fatehabad Road. Collector Prabhu N. Singh said that the schedule of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister has been decided. After the foundation stone, work will begin on the 14 km long corridor-1 from Sikandra to Taj Mahal East Gate.
In the first phase, three stations and 4 km of elevated track will be built at a cost of Rs 273 crore. The first station will be Fatehabad Road Metro Station in front of TDI Mall on Fatehabad Road. On Monday, the workers of contractor Sam India Buildwell Private Limited have started barricading along the proposed site.
Construction of three stations and tracks of the first phase is to be completed by December 2022. The first phase consists of six stations. The tender for construction of three metro stations viz. Basai, Fatehabad and Taj Mahal East Gate have been awarded, while the tender for the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Jama Masjid at the three underground metro stations, Old Mandi Square, is in progress. This process can be completed in a week.
In the first phase, there will be parking facilities at 10 stations in both the corridors of the metro. The biggest parking at Corridor 1 will be made at Sikandra, the largest parking at Corridor 2 at Mandi Samiti Metro Station. In the first phase, 95,515 sqm of land has been reserved for parking on both corridors.
